How to Capture Great Social Media Content (With Just Your iPhone)

The best social media content isn't always the most polished—it's the most authentic. When capturing content for your business, don't worry about having the latest camera or filming like a professional. Genuine, everyday moments almost always outperform overly staged content.

Here are a few simple tips to help you capture footage we'll love working with.

Before You Start: Update Your Camera Settings

To ensure we receive the highest quality footage, we recommend updating these settings on your iPhone before filming.

Go to:

Settings → Camera → Record Video

Recommended settings:

  • ✅ 4K at 30 fps

  • ❌ HDR Video: OFF

Settings → Camera

  • Grid: ON (helps keep your shots level)

One last thing...
Before filming, give your camera lens a quick wipe with a soft cloth. It's amazing how much sharper your footage will look!

1. Film vertically

Most social media platforms are designed for vertical video, so hold your phone upright whenever possible.

2. Hold each clip for 5–10 seconds

Avoid quick pans or stopping the recording too soon. Holding each shot for a little longer gives us much more flexibility when editing.

3. Keep your phone as steady as possible

You don't need special equipment—simply hold your phone with both hands and move slowly if you're walking or panning.

4. Let the light to do the work

Natural light is your best friend. If you're indoors, try to stand near a window or film in well-lit spaces.

5. Capture people being themselves

The magic is in the genuine moments. Conversations, smiles, laughter and everyday interactions often make the most engaging content.

6. Capture more than you think you need

If you're unsure whether something is worth filming, it probably is. We'd much rather sort through extra footage than wish we'd captured more.

7. Focus on the little details

Don't forget the close-ups! Coffee cups, hands at work, flowers, books, artwork, signage and other small details help bring your stories to life. Think of them as filler pieces.
